Weird, noodle-shaped amphibians known as caecilians found in South Florida canal - University of Florida

Image
C aecilians have arrived in Miami. Florida Fish and Wildlife biologists captured one of the obscure legless amphibians in the Tamiami Canal, the first example of an introduced caecilian in the U.S. Florida Museum of Natural History scientists used DNA testing to identify the specimen as the Rio Cauca caecilian, Typhlonectes natans , a native of Colombia and Venezuela. "Very little is known about these animals in the wild, but there's nothing particularly dangerous about them, and they don't appear to be serious predators," said Coleman Sheehy, Florida Museum's herpetology collection manager. "They'll probably eat small animals and get eaten by larger ones. This could be just another non-native species in the South Florida mix." Sheeh...

Paradise Marsh is a cute little nature walk adventure game - Destructoid

[embedded content] Coming to us from developer LazyEti, with tunes by Disasterpeace, Paradise Marsh is a laid-back adventure game that isn't any more or less than it needs to be. It's a "short contemplative game about exploring a peaceful wetland," and that sounds rather lovely. Based on the teaser, this seems to be a calm little stroll with some — but not too much — stuff to collect and check out, whether it's a tadpole or beetle for your journal, a floating poem in a bottle, or fallen stars that need to be restored in the "empty night sky." I've gotta say, not enough games just let us loose in a scenic world with a bug net...

Watch titan triggerfish jump out of the water to catch and eat crabs - New Scientist

By Jake Buehler Titan triggerfish sometimes hunt land-based prey Matthew Tietbohl Many land animals will dip beneath the waves to catch and eat fish, but the reverse situation can sometimes occur too, as the titan triggerfish demonstrates. The fish, which can grow to a length of 75 centimetres, will sometimes beach itself to feed on crabs walking along the shoreline. In 2018, on the Red Sea's Mar Mar Island, Matthew Tietbohl, a coral reef ecologist at King Abdullah University of Science & Technology in Saudi Arabia, was surveying a beach for sea turtle tracks with some … Adblock test (Why?)
