The avid fisherman says it took about 30 to 35 minutes to bring in the huge stingray. He adds they didn't measure its height but estimates the fish was about 6-feet tall from tail to tip of the head.

"I couldn't believe how big it was," Schwarz tells MySA.com. "I didn't really know they got that big. I'm used to catching freshwater fish so it was a much bigger fight than what I'm used to."

Schwarz says they harvested the meat and plan on making imitation scallops for the Fourth of July weekend.

Southern stingrays are common in the Gulf of Mexico and have been known to reach sizes of nearly 5 feet wide, according to Oceana. The species can weigh to around 210 pounds, which they grow to by eating worms, bivalves, crustaceans and small fish.
