After a much-needed summer that featured many re-openings, it's hard to believe it's coming to an end as cool nights and fallen leaves are fast approaching.

For restaurants at the Shore, that means many favorites will be closing.

Some owners say they will stay open as long as the weather cooperates, while others are ready to lock the doors. Here' a look at some of the most popular eateries and their closing dates:

9th Ave. Pier, Belmar: Remaining open while the weather is nice, but only  on weekends: 4 p.m. to midnight Fridays, 11:30 a.m. to midnight Saturdays, and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays. 905 River Road, Route 35.; 9thavepier.com.

Avon Pavilion, Avon: Closed Sept. 6. 600 Ocean Ave.; avonpavilion.com. 

Biggy's Beach Grill, North Beach Haven: Official date not yet announced, but the restaurant is only open Fridays through Sundays after Labor Day. 1301 Long Beach Blvd.; biggysbeachgrill.com.

Jersey Shore summer tourism by the numbers: It's back, but definitely not normal

Bird and Betty's, Beach Haven: Closes Oct. 31. 529 Dock Road; birdandbettys.com.

The Boondocks Fishery, Red Bank: Closes Sept. 16. As of Labor Day, open 4 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and noon to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. 1 Marine Park; theboondocksfishery.com.

Boulevard Clams, Surf City: Official date not announced, but closing sometime after Labor Day. 2006 Long Beach Blvd.; boulevardclams.net.

The Chicken or the Egg, Beach Haven: Open year-round but will release a modified off-season schedule toward summer's end. 207 North Bay Ave.; 492fowl.com.

Crêperie de la Mer, Beach Haven: Open through the end of November. Due to limited staff, in September, Thursdays and Fridays are drinks and pastries only; Saturdays and Sundays are sweet crepes. In October and November, Fridays through Sundays will be sweet crepes. 210 North Beach Ave.; creperiedelamerlbi.com.

The Food Shack, Point Pleasant Beach: Closes for the season on Oct. 24, but closed Wednesdays as of Labor Day. 1000 Ocean Ave.; foodshacknj.com.

Gazebo Grill & Sushi Bar, Beach Haven: Official date not announced, but after Labor Day, only open Fridays through Sundays. 325 9th St.; gazebogrilllbi.com.

Harvey Cedars Shellfish Company, Harvey Cedars: Closed Sept. 5. Sister restaurant Harvey Cedars Clam Bar in Beach Haven closed permanently Sept. 5. 7904 Long Beach Blvd.; harveycedarsshellfishco.com.

Inlet Cafe, Highlands: Closes on Dec. 1. 3 Cornwall St.; inletcafe.com.

Iron Oak Smokehouse, Beach Haven: Open weekends through early October, then catering will be available in the off-season. 325 W. 9th St., Unit 23; ironoaklbi.com.

Lenny and John's Subs, Beach Haven: Open through mid-October. 2205 South Bay Ave.; lennyandjohnssubs.com.

Some doors close, others open: 5 restaurants opening this fall

The Sandbox Cafe, Surf City: Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the off-season. The Ship Bottom location closed as of Labor Day. 1403 Long Beach Blvd. in Surf City and 2604 Long Beach Blvd. in Ship Bottom, sandboxcafelbi.com.

Sea Dogs Grille, Barnegat: Closed in late August. The adjoining Skipper's Seafood Market is open until Oct. 2.  647 Route 72, skippersseafoodmarketnj.com.

Strollo's Lighthouse Italian Ice, various locations: West End location closes mid- to late September, the shop in the Belford section of Middletown closes Oct. 10, and Long Branch and Red Bank locations close at the end of October. Long Branch and West End are open from 2 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and noon to 10 p.m. Fridays through Sundays, while Red Bank and Belford are open from 2 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and noon to 10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. strolloslighthouse.com.

Woodie's Drive-in, Ship Bottom: Official date not announced, but closing Tuesdays and Wednesday through September with a closing date sometime in October. 509 Long Beach Blvd.

Colombian conservationist Ivan Lozano has hit on a brilliantly promising strategy to protect his country’s rare and endangered amphibians. His plan: Flood the market with them. Lozano is not hunting rare frogs in Colombia’s Andean forests. He is raising them himself and selling them at prices designed to undercut poachers and smugglers. If he can raise the frogs cheaply enough, and in large enough numbers, he might manage to drive down the market price to the point that poachers no longer find it worthwhile to harvest and smuggle the creatures onto the black markets. LOS ANGELES — Up until a few weeks ago, the West Fork of the San Gabriel River was one of the most abundant wildlife habitats in Los Angeles County, a secluded and rugged area defined by its steep peaks, lush canyons and mixture of rare and endangered species. Recently however, a team of federal biologists and forest rangers was aghast when it visited the stream following the Bobcat fire, which has burned more than 115,000 acres in the heart of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Terrain that once resembled a High Sierra granite gorge now looked like ground zero after a nuclear explosion, and the usually clean mountain air was sharp with the stench of smoke. Particularly unsettling were the bare and ashen slopes that were now primed to dissolve under pounding winter storms.
