Chat GPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot, has been making waves for its capabilities. Users have been able to build websites, tell stories and make nutritional plans.

But can it find your next favorite restaurant?

It's been fun to play with, so I fed the OpenAI project some basic questions: What is the best steakhouse in Houston? Where can I find the best crawfish?

TOP 100 Restaurants: Houston's dining scene is exceptional. This list features the very best our city has to offer.

"It is difficult for me to recommend a specific restaurant as the best place for steak in Houston as personal preferences for steak can vary greatly," it replied in part — every time.

Still, it did respond with popular options for each question, and some of them were right on the money. Others were a bit questionable.

Tex-Mex

"Some popular options in Houston include Pico's Mex-Mex, The Original Ninfa's on Navigation, and El Real Tex-Mex Cafe ..."

Pico's and Ninfa's are a few staff favorites, but El Real is an interesting one considering it's been closed for about three years now. There are other "El Real" Mexican restaurants in the Houston area, but none are likely affiliated with the old Westheimer location.

Barbecue

"Some popular options in Houston include Killen's Barbecue, Corkscrew BBQ, and The Pit Room."

You'll likely find all of these on anybody's list of top barbecue places in the Houston area.

Steakhouses

"Some popular options in Houston include Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, Mastro's Steakhouse, and Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse."

Interesting that the three choices fall squarely under the umbrella of Houston's largest restaurant families: The Pappas and Fertittas. Mastro's was recently featured in our list of top-performing restaurants and bars based on alcohol sales.

Tamales

"Some popular options in Houston include The Tamale Company, Tamales Dona Tere, and Lone Star Tamale Factory."

The Tamale Company recently made our list of the top 20 tamales in Houston. Dona Tere made the news last year when Eater reported it would be a ghost kitchen for "Saved By The Bell's" Mario Lopez.
