Riverdale's Camila Mendes' Modern Mirror Turns This Utilitarian Room Chic, Designers Say
Mudrooms are not generally thought of as the most glamorous or stylish space in the home. However, Camila Mendes, star of the teen drama Riverdale (known for its outlandish storylines) is no stranger to a plot twist.
The Do Revenge actress took to Instagram to reveal the modern mirror in her mudroom, and design experts love the effect it has on the utilitarian back entryway. This is a wall decor idea for the ages.
The Los Angeles-based actress poses with her adorable white Maltipoo, Truffle, in a curvy, organic-shaped mirror. Behind her, several light jackets hang on built-in hooks while high cabinets and low shelving provide extra storage for shoes and accessories. The storage makes the space effective, while the mirror decoration makes it stylish.
Interior design experts love decorating with mirrors, and in particular, the organically shaped mirror chosen by the actress. 'An organically shaped, wavy style mirror isn't just a reflection tool, it's a standalone piece of art with its own unique character,' says Kerry Sherin, design expert at Ownerly.
'The fluidity of the shape can add a dynamic element that rounds off the hard lines typical of most interior spaces. Its unique irregular contour can impart a sense ofdynamism and movement, which can freshen up and enliven any wall it graces,' she continues. The dynamic quality of the organic shape is certainly evident in Camila's space, where the curve of the mirror provides a welcome contrast to the straightness of the built-in storage behind.
Julio Arco, interior designer and architect at Bark and Chase adds: 'This style of mirror can capture and reflect light in a manner that creates intriguing and ever-changing patterns, amplifying the sense of space and enhancing the ambiance of theroom.' The white walls in this space further enlarge the feel of the Riverdale actress's space for an open and airy feel.
The experts agree that Camila's wavy mirror is an absolutely perfect mudroom idea. 'An organically shaped mirror can infuse a dash of style and whimsy,' into a mudroom which, 'tend to be utilitarian and lack character,' says design expert Kerry Sherin.
Interior designer Julio Arco adds, 'The mudroom of a home is a transitional space – it's the first internal area visitors encounter, and it sets the tone for the rest of the home. The wavy-style mirror not only provides a functional spot for last-minute checks but, more importantly, adds a touch of sophistication and intrigue.'
He continues, 'The dynamic reflections from an organically shaped mirror can make the space feel more inviting and spacious, reducing the boxed-in feel that some entryways or mudrooms might possess. This sense of spaciousness and light can offer a warm welcome to anyone entering the home.'
Now that Riverdale has met its controversial end after seven seasons, we can only hope that Camila will have time to provide us with even more hallway mirror ideas. Shop the look below to create your own chic and stylish mudroom.
