Take A Dog-Friendly Vacation At These U.S. Resorts And Hotels
Two pampered dogs enjoy vacation with their family.
getty Traveling with a pet who deserves the royal treatment? These hotels and resorts from Ft. Lauderdale to Telluride will treat Fido like one of the family. When your vacation plans include a lot of time outdoors, you don't want your favorite four-legged friend to be left behind. According to a recent survey by the American Pet Products Association, about 78 percent of pet owners travel with their dogs each year. It's no longer uncommon to see dogs accompanying their owners on planes, and it's estimated that 80 percent of Americans take a yearly road trip, making traveling with pets even easier.
What's not easy is narrowing down the choices of pet-friendly hotels. Some merely charge you extra to bring a pet, while others go out of their way to pamper your furry friend. And of course the destination is all-important – you'll want to know that there are plenty of places for your dog to romp and play.
Here are five hotels and resorts across the U.S. Where dogs get the royal treatment in vacation spots that feel like their own personal playground.
W Fort LauderdaleFort Lauderdale, FloridaThe Bark & Bougie Dog Package at W Fort Lauderdale makes every pup feel like a celebrity.
C&I Studios 2018The W brand is synonymous with luxury, and at the W Fort Lauderdale, that philosophy is extended to man (and woman's) best friend. The hotel's Bark & Bougie Dog Package is made for comfort and play. First, there's a luxe dog sun lounger perfect for an afternoon snooze. Back inside, there's a doggie dress up closet for stepping out in style. And of course, a dog's life isn't complete without treats – she'll enjoy a barkuterie board and food served in a gold dog bowl. Fort Lauderdale itself welcomes pets to its parks (my favorite is Barkham Park inside of Markham Park) and on its beaches, where dogs can frolic in the waves or chase frisbees in the sand. And on Los Olas Boulevard, you'll find several pet-friendly restaurants, all within walking distance of one other.
Be sure to review W Fort Lauderdale's pet policies and go to Visit Lauderdale to discover all the things you can do and places you can go with your dog.
The Hotel TellurideTelluride, ColoradoTelluride's multitude of hiking trails make it a joyful playground for canine companions.
Rebecca DeurleinThis breathtaking town may not be the easiest to get to (unless you score a flight into Telluride Airport), but you'll never regret the drive from Montrose. Situated in a canyon, Telluride is postcard perfect, and most postcards feature dogs. That would be dogs with ski caps, dogs riding the gondola, and dogs happily panting near a water bowl at any number of restaurants in town. Telluride is known for being exceptionally dog-friendly, and The Hotel Telluride takes that to the next level. Ten percent of the nominal pet fee is donated to the Humane Society, and each pet receives a gift bag with organic treats upon check in. Pet owners are provided a handy informational packet of all places pet-friendly so there won't be a guessing game every time you leave your room.
Trails abound in Telluride, but my favorite – especially for dogs – is the 5-mile Bear Creek Trail, which has a steady incline, grassy fields, forests, babbling brooks, and drop-dead gorgeous views that climax in a breathtaking waterfall.
Find all the details for your stay at Hotel Telluride, then pack up the pooch and get ready for some epic hiking.

Barnsley ResortAdairsville, GeorgiaTwo happy dogs pose in front of the Manor House Ruins at Barnsley Resort.
Courtesy of Barnsley ResortLocated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Barnsley Resort is an outdoor adventure destination perfect for travelers and their four-legged friends. This north Georgia property sits on 3,000 acres, so plenty of room for ball chasing and long, leisurely walks through architectural ruins and landscaped gardens. The team behind Barnsley Resort seems to understand that large does not equate to troublesome – it appreciates and welcomes dogs of all sizes. Accommodations are made to feel like a home-away-from-home, with large cottages dotting a friendly cul-de-sac, communal fire pits, and a host of outdoor activities. Your dog will love the miles of wooded hiking trails and come home to pet beds, bottled water, bowls provided by the resort, and a selection of treats. Your four-legged friend is welcome at the onsite Beer Garden for al fresco dining, and the resort's store, The Outpost, is replete with doggie bowties, bandanas, and other items by Crew La La, as well as Barnsley Resort-branded dog treats by Big Daddy Biscuits. The icing on the dog biscuit is that Barnsley partners with PAWS Atlanta, so a portion of your pet fee is donated toward nutrition, medical care, and basic training of orphaned animals.
Barnsley's pet friendly accommodations make everything easier, and since it's just a short drive from the Atlanta airport, your pooch won't have to wait long for the fun to begin.
Country House ResortDoor County, WisconsinA dog jumps into a lake.
gettyMidwesterners love Door County, but it's an accessible destination for anyone, thanks to the Austin Straubel Airport in Green Bay. The beauty of Door County, Wisconsin, is that it's made up of dozens of villages that feel slightly distinct, so you can seek out water-focused areas, quaint towns, and quiet solitude knowing that you can drive to a different vibe if the mood strikes you. Introduce your pup to the Country House Resort in Sister Bay – each of the 46 rooms has a balcony with water views, and breakfast is complimentary. Your pet will enjoy a dog basket that includes towels, furniture cover sheets, information about local dog-friendly businesses, waste disposal bags, and an all-natural welcome treat. Your pup can trounce along 1,100 feet of private shoreline, a green area across the street, and nature trails, and the outside dog wash area makes it easy to clean up for dinner. Be sure to call and specify your need for a dog-friendly room.
IndyHumane Hosting Dog-friendly Eclipse Viewing Party
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Your family pet may even be able to enjoy the total solar eclipse on April 8.
The IndyHumane Society is hosting a family-friendly and pup-friendly event on the afternoon of the eclipse.
Music, food, and drinks will all be on site. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and of course, protective eyeglasses for humans will be provided.
IndyHumane says all pets must be vaccinated and leashed at all times.
"This unique event being a non profit animal shelter here, we're really just looking to just bring the community out here. We're an animal shelter but we're not only just coming to adopt dogs, we want to be a resource in the community for all pet and animal lovers." Mary Lechner, IndyHumane Events and Corporate Relations Manage told News' 8.
The event kicks off at 1 p.M. And runs until 4:30 p.M.
Those that are wishing to attend must get tickets. You can find all of that information here.
One ticket provides entry for one vehicle to the event. Up to six attendees are allowed per ticket per vehicle. Leaders at IndyHumane say your ticket or donations goes right back into the shelter.
"It provides food, care for animals, medical treatment is a big expense here, we want to make sure all of our animals are healthy." said Lechner
Please exercise caution when bringing your pet to a solar eclipse.
