Vermilion Co. Dogs Reunited In A New Home After Separation

VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Two dogs that were fostered together and later separated have been reunited.

Uniting Pride kicks off annual Pride Fest

Sara Rhodes was a volunteer and foster with the Vermilion County Animal Regulations and Animal Shelter. At one point, she fostered two dogs named Lila and Moggie, who became best friends while in her home.

Vermilion County Animal Regulations and Animal Shelter shared Lila, Moggie and Sara's story on Facebook.

According to the shelter, Moggie was eventually adopted, and Lila stayed with Sara until she passed away. After Sara died, Lila was adopted and Moggie was returned to the shelter. Later on, however, Lila's owners messaged the shelter that Lila needed a friend, and they wanted to adopt another dog.

Now, Moggie and Lila are reunited in the same home once again.

Dog Doesn't Like The Dog Park, Proceeds To Walk Himself Home: 'Upset'

Going to the dog park is usually a highlight for most canines, but one pup has left the internet in hysterics with his dramatic reaction following a terrible experience.

TikTok user @thereallteeteee posted a hilarious clip showing the moment her pet stormed back home because "he didn't like the dog park." The poor dog, named Tank, was so angry about the experience that he didn't even need to be walked back by his owner. The strong, independent dog was even happy to carry his own leash in his mouth the whole way home.

After the clip was posted on September 9, the dog's sassy antics have left social media users in stitches. In just a day, the clip has gained over 2.2 million views and more than 488,700 likes on TikTok.

Newsweek has reached out to @thereallteeteee via Instagram for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.

Alongside the clip, the TikToker explained in a caption: "He was so upset, he decided to walk himself home."

While this dog didn't seem all that happy about going to the dog park, a walk is usually a very positive and healthy experience. Not only does it help with their weight and body condition to prevent obesity, but VCA Animal Hospitals adds that being mobile also helps their joints and digestive health.

Indeed, a dog can get plenty of physical exercise from their own backyard (especially when it comes to digging up their owner's flowers), but that can't provide them with all the mental stimulation they require. Going out for a walk can exercise their mind as much as their body as they meet new people, socialize with other pets, and take in new scents.

The amount of physical activity required will vary for each dog, depending on their breed and age, but VCA Animal Hospitals suggests that 30 minutes a day is a good target to strive for. It's beneficial to keep the dog engaged by varying the routes and even adding in a game of fetch if possible.

Since Tank's tantrum went viral on social media, his owner has shared more videos showing subsequent attempts to visit the dog park. However, he still isn't keen on the idea, because in one follow-up video, the TikToker joked that "he still disapproves of the dog park" sadly.

With over 12,200 comments on the first video, TikTok users have hailed Tank for being so independent when he strutted back home, leash in tow. There's no way he would accept anything less than he deserves, after all.

One comment on the viral post read: "He left with grace...Very demure, very not going again."

Another TikTok user wrote: "He didn't even care if you stayed. All he knew is that he wasn't."

"The way he stopped for a second to make sure he was going the right way but still didn't look back," joked another person.

While another TikToker commented: "He stomped every step."

11 Dogs Recovering In Davie County After Being Found Neglected In Mocksville Home

DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — A Mocksville man has been charged with animal cruelty after officials found 11 emaciated and neglected dogs in his home on Friday. Officials say those dogs are now recovering at Davie County Animal Services, hoping to get adopted soon.

Small, skinny and almost skeletal-like is how Davie County Sheriff's Office Director of Animal Services Lisa Nielsen described those dogs when they first came into the shelter. It's been a couple days now and she said they've been doing much better.

"We're already seeing improvement; ribs are filling in, they're bright, they're happy, they're bouncing," Nielsen said.

Deputies with Davie County Sheriff's Office Animal Services said they found the dogs after executing a search warrant at a home on the 400 block of Hobson Drive in Mocksville.

"They found 11 very underweight chihuahua-type dogs," Nielsen said. "One was in immediate danger, so he was transported directly to the vet's office. The other ten were brought here."

Nielsen said they've been working since then to get the dogs back to a healthy weight, but it's been hard to witness.

"It's always difficult," she explained. "We do this work because we love animals, and seeing animals in that type of condition is very difficult."

And she urged anyone who feels like they can't take care of their pets to ask for help.

"There are programs in the community: we offer a food pantry here we have a wonderful low-cost spay/neuter clinic here in the county. And if you are in over your head, we will accept donor surrenders. You know, there are options," Nielsen said.

Deputies said warrants were served for 30-year-old Nathan Lee Tanner of Mocksville on Saturday. The warrants were for one felony count of cruelty to animals and 10 misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.

Tanner received no bond on his release order due to other charges in other counties. He has a court date scheduled for Sept. 26.

Luckily, Nielsen said the dogs have been doing better since getting to the shelter - in part, thanks to donations and support from the local community.

"Most of these guys are really pretty friendly. They're scared obviously; they don't know what's going on, why they're here," she said. "But they're really responding well to the attention that the staff is giving them."

All of the dogs are being housed at Davie County Animal Services. They are currently accepting food donations at the shelter, as well as monetary donations in-person or online. If you'd like to adopt one or donate, you can find more information here.
