"Every dog deserves the joy of a warm home, especially during the holiday season," said Samantha Ranlet, communications manager for SPCA Wake. "By adopting, you're saving a life, and there's no better gift than providing love and comfort to a pet who's been waiting for a family of their own."
The Wake County Animal Center is also running a holiday adoption special.
Between Dec. 1 and Dec. 22, dogs are only $25 and cats are only $5. Every pet adopted from the Wake County Animal Center is spayed or neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.
Brandywine Valley SPCA's Annual Mega Adoption Event Helped Pets Find Their Forever Homes
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Families from around Delmarva, came to Brandywine Valley SPCA for their annual Mega Adoption Event, and many, went home with a furry friend.
Finding a New Home
The event successfully helped a local father and daughter find a companion. Both Rod and Leanne Stotler know this will be a big investment. "We were going to look and see what was there, they all kind of call to you, but this one has my birthday. It's cute and seems to like me."
At the sale, families could get a dog or cat for only $35. Due to the size of the event, many volunteers worked to make the operation run smoothly. Bryanna Evans worked as a volunteer and said her job was meaningful.
"It's an amazing feeling, to see that connection between dog and person. You know they're going to have a great life with that dog."
The Stotler family already has a full house. Rod tells WMDT, that this is not their only pet "We have five cats: that's my daughter's thing. They seem to grow in our house."
However, their new puppy 'Turbo' fit the bill, and they can't wait to bring him aboard. "That will be interesting, we're going to give Turbo some time to adjust to a different setting. I think since the cats are bigger than Turbo, I think they won't be too scared."
With Christmas right around the corner, the family hopes Turbo can build a bond with their other pets.
"We can't wait to see him under the tree, all the cats and the dogs love sleeping under the tree. We're hoping Turbo does the same."
Felines vs Caines
Speaking of pets, the debate between dogs and cats has been a conversation for years, and during the Brandywine Valley SPCA event, it was put to the test.
Families walked through the rescue center to find their special furry friend. Some went to the cat section and others prioritized the dog area.
Operations Manager Laura Page tells WMDT, that there are distinct differences between the two pets. "If you want a place to rest and you had a bad day, get a cat, because they are like chamomile. Dogs are like Red Bull; they get you going and up in the morning."
Now as for the debate, people were drawn to what they liked the most. WMDT's Leila Weah was at that event and took home a furry friend of her own. Leila's says 4-month-old Aspen is fitting right in with the rest of the family.
